I know, it takes a determined idiot to screw up a fruit smoothie; you only need to put things into a blender that taste good and you really can’t go wrong. But I’m posting a fruit smoothie anyway because I like them and I make a lot of them in the summer.
I recently had a smoothie from smoothie king in Savannah, GA; it was the first time I’ve purchased a fruit smoothie since visiting Disney World as a child—-honestly. I was amazed at the plethora of options–those already predetermined, plus the endless combinations possible if you wanted fly without solo. Not to mention “enhancers” that they offer. Of course this all comes at a cost, and for that reason I’ll probably stick to my own kitchen, no surprise here. Yet, even with all of those complicated smoothie ideas, I still really like the fruit smoothie I make most often: strawberry.
Back to Disney World. When we were there I remember walking out of some sort of human body/health attraction. I guess it was Epcot, but I’m not sure. It was something like that 80’s movie Innerspace. Anyway, we walked out and in the hot Florida sun and bought strawberry smoothies. They were magnificent; the pinnacle of a strawberry smoothie. We went back to that particular park another day, just for that smoothie. Naturally when we got back to Pennsylvania we wanted to recreate those smoothies, but we could never achieve the same results; we were missing yogurt. It may seem trivial in hindsight, but the day when that was discovered was like being transported right back to Orlando.
So, with all of that nostalgia, here is that humble combination:
Strawberry Smoothie
Software
-FROZEN Strawberries
-Not from concentrate orange juice with lots of pulp
-Whole Milk yogurt (I use Stonyfield Farm’s organic plain whole milk yogurt with cream on top)
Hardware
-Blender (mine has two speeds, fast and faster)
How-To
- Throw all the ingredients in the blender and ask yourself, “Will it blend?”
- Blend until smooth
Common Upgrade
-Put some banana in it.
Not that exciting, but it certainly beats a smoothie I once made with oatmeal, asparagus, orange juice, rasberries, avocado, seltzer, and a splash of I-can’t-believe-this-crap-is-in-a-book.
P.S. The picture is made of 100% post blogger product… Which is why the cup is green.
